JOB DESCRIPTION Quality Inspector / Production Operator Location Mooresville, NC Department Quality / Production Position Type Full-Time Classification Hourly, Non-Exempt Pay Range $22.00-$25.00 per hour, depending on experience Reports To Quality / Operations Leadership Position Summary The Quality Inspector / Production Operator supports both quality inspection and manufacturing operations at SHD Composites. The primary responsibility is to inspect raw materials, work-in-process, and finished products to verify conformance with specifications, customer requirements, and internal quality standards. When inspection workload allows, the position rotates into Production to support manufacturing activities. This hybrid structure helps build strong product knowledge while providing flexible support across Quality and Production. Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Quality Inspection Perform in-process, and final inspections of work-in-process, and finished products. Inspect products against specifications, work instructions, production travelers, controlled documentation, and customer requirements. Perform required visual inspections, measurements, sampling, and in-process quality checks. Accurately document inspection results and maintain complete quality and traceability records. Review work orders, batch/run documentation, inspection records, labels, certificates, and other manufacturing documentation for accuracy and completeness. Identify, document, segregate, and communicate nonconforming material or product and assist with nonconformance investigations as required. Verify product identification, labeling, traceability. Communicate quality concerns promptly to Quality, Production, Engineering, and site leadership. Support internal, customer, and certification audits and follow applicable SHD quality procedures and AS9100/ISO requirements. Production Support Responsibilities Assist with assigned manufacturing activities when inspection workload permits. Operate or support production equipment after completing required training and demonstrating competency. Follow approved work instructions, specifications, production procedures, and safety requirements. Stage, identify, measure, move, and handle raw materials, work-in-process, and finished materials. Assist with equipment setup, cleaning, changeovers, packaging, labeling, and material movement. Complete required production documentation and system transactions accurately and on time. Support inventory counts, 5S, housekeeping, and other production needs as required. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in manufacturing, production, quality inspection, machine operation, laboratory work, or another industrial environment preferred. Strong attention to detail and ability to recognize inconsistencies, defects, or process deviations. Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions and maintain accurate records. Basic math, measurement, computer, and problem-solving skills. Strong commitment to product quality, workplace safety, dependability, and punctuality. Ability to work effectively with Quality, Production, Engineering, Maintenance, and site leadership. Willingness to work in both Quality Inspection and Production based on business needs. Preferred Qualifications Quality inspection or quality control experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience in aerospace, composites, prepreg, plastics, chemicals, textiles, coating, converting, or other process manufacturing. Experience using calipers, micrometers, gauges, scales, or other measuring and inspection equipment. Experience with nonconformance reports, controlled documentation, material traceability, calibration systems, or ERP/MRP systems. Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001, Lean manufacturing, or 5S practices.
