Work also may include the dispatching of personnel for services to the school or public. The employee is expected to have a general understanding of the work unit and its services to respond to inquiries; non-routine questions or situations are referred to others. Specific oral and/or written instructions are available to apply to most work situations; however, independent decisions are made within parameters. Work may include the use of specific computer software/programs. Teacher Asst: An employee in this class performs any combination of classroom duties to assist teaching staff of upper grades (4th-5th). The employee must have the ability to execute details of the work according to general, broad based instructions, and be able to adapt to frequent and varying changes in work. The employee provides guidance and coaching to students, and requires the operation of various media and technology equipment such as computer, television, video/audio player, projector, document camera, laminator, copy machine and various other office equipment. Because of the nature of the work, the employee may be exposed to human blood and body fluids, and is subject to the OSHA requirements on blood borne pathogens. The employee is subject to work both inside and outside, and varied work environments. This category of teacher assistant may be required to obtain a CDL license to drive a school bus. Assignment to this duty will be dependent upon the principal of the school and the need for drivers. Work is performed under the supervision of a school, classroom teacher, department or unit supervisor and is evaluated through observation, conferences, and the quality and effectiveness of work completed.
